BEST BARS IN POINT LOMA
An honest local's guide to where to drink on the peninsula — written by the people who actually drink there.
Point Loma isn't a nightlife strip — and that's the point. The best bars here are neighborhood spots: places you walk to, sit at the bar, and know the bartender by the second visit. Below are six bars in and around Point Loma worth going to, what each is best for, and the honest version of what you're walking into.
HARBOR TOWN PUB
Point Loma's everyday spot since 2011. Sixteen handles of cold draft beer, classic cocktails done right, a full kitchen putting out burgers, tacos, sliders, and wings, and a big arcade in the back. Weekend breakfast Saturday and Sunday from 8am to 3pm. No reservations — walk in, grab a stool, stay a while.
PACIFIC SHORES
A San Diego institution. Famous for its black-light underwater murals and strong drinks. Cash-friendly, no-frills, exactly what you want a dive to be.
STONE BREWING WORLD BISTRO & GARDENS — LIBERTY STATION
Forty-plus taps and a sprawling outdoor patio inside Liberty Station. More restaurant than bar, but if you want a craft beer destination near Point Loma this is the one.
SLATER'S 50/50 — LIBERTY STATION
The fallback when every screen at your neighborhood spot is full. Plenty of TVs and a long beer list, with the namesake 50/50 burger (half beef, half bacon).
THE FISHERY
Not a bar in the pub sense, but the bar inside The Fishery is where Point Loma locals go for a quiet drink on the water. Order a martini and a dozen oysters.
BEACHCOMBER'S BAR (HUMPHREY'S HALF MOON INN)
On Shelter Island, tucked into the Humphrey's resort. Perfect for a pre-show drink before a concert on the bay or a low-key sunset cocktail.
